Falcon 4G
Long-range active stand-off chemical detector
Falcon 4G is an advanced instrument used in CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) defence systems. It is designed for the stand-off detection and measurement of CWAs (Chemical Warfare Agents) and TICs (Toxic Industrial Chemicals).
The system enables the identification of vapour-phase threats without any direct contact with the toxic cloud, ensuring maximum safety for operators.
Unlike traditional passive detectors, which rely on ambient energy and suffer significant performance degradation in humid conditions, Falcon 4G utilises active technology. The core of the system is a pulsed $CO_2$ laser based on the DIAL (Differential Absorption LIDAR) principle. The device emits its own energy, analysing two specific wavelengths within the far-infrared spectral window: one that is absorbed by the target gas and one that remains unaffected. This approach ensures a precise and reliable chemical “signature”.
The active architecture of the Falcon 4G overcomes the physical limitations of passive systems, offering operational capabilities in scenarios usually considered impossible. Falcon 4G operates effectively in rain, extreme temperatures, and humidity levels exceeding 80% (a critical threshold for passive sensors).
